This project was created under the progamme of Professor Jean Ulysses Voelker and Professor Nadja Mayer’s interdisciplinary project course “radical”. The semester assignment was as simple as it was difficult: do something radical. Since Professor Voelker was about to retire after almost 20 Years of teaching typography and editorial design at the University of Applied Sciences in Mainz, we knew that we wanted to make him a little gift that he never had before. We tattooed his face and his book on 13 people (including myself), who either wanted to support the project, wanted a free tattoo, liked him or didn‘t even know him. In addition to the tattoos, part of the project was an Instagram page with photos and videos, a sketchbook-like documentation with a tattooed cover and socks to get the expenses back in. Prof. Voelker only found out about the project when it was presented at the last day of the semester.
